Donald J. Trump,

Congratulations Donald. You are officially the 45th President of the United States of America. Despite using your platform to divide the nation that you are now a representative of, somehow you’ve managed to acquire the most coveted and significant position in our country. Now that you’ve taken the oath of office and the torch has officially been passed on to you, you have the duty to uphold the oath you made to the Constitution that you have sworn to protect. Unfortunately, the promises, language and lies you’ve used on your campaign trail to tug at the strings of a desperate and divided United States suggest that the document that is deemed the law of the land means nothing to you (and I often question whether you’ve studied it at all).

It may seem like you have won and that your agenda of regression for the United States will imminently go forth unhindered, but this is the opposite of the truth. The people: those who care deeply about this country and all of its denizens no matter their race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, gender or documentation status, will vehemently oppose any legislation that threatens or attacks the human rights of people in this country and around the world. If sed threats to our freedoms occur, expect reactions, expect protests, and expect opposition.

Additionally, we call on the press to continue their active pursuit of your truth; to shed light on the wrongdoings of your past, present, and future. You may have had journalists wrapped around your fingers during the primaries and the election, however, you are the one they have their eyes and ears on for the next four years. Every move you make will be met with intense scrutiny. Any attempts to silence the press and restrict their coverage of the actions of your administration will also be rebuked. Journalists serve an important purpose to this country as informants and the revealers of truth. To oppose their noble duty would be counterproductive to your self-professed agenda of freedom.

And finally regarding the state of our planet: The facts are in Mr. Trump. The average temperature of the planet is increasing dramatically according to 97% of the climate scientists who have dedicated their lives to uncovering, studying and examining this inconvenient truth. It is without a doubt not a Chinese Hoax, but a real issues that threatens the continuity of current and future ecosystems as well as the human race itself. You may feel compelled to believe in the convenient lie that we are not at fault for the planet’s changing climate while rich fossil fuel investors line your pockets, but you cannot eat, drink or breathe money. The moment we notice your fight crosses the line from for the people to for the rich and powerful, we will act accordingly.

Money and deceit combined with your new position can be remarkably powerful, but the will of the people of this country is stronger. Be prepared, because we are fired up and ready to go.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
