Dear customers,
A day in the life of a gas station employee may not be what you think it is. So here are some things that I think you should know.
Yes, I know gas prices are high. This however, is not my fault. I don't make the gas prices and I definitely don't see any of the profit from it. Not that it matters. So when you come in the store and yell at me about how you feel the gas price should be lowered, there is really nothing in my power I can do to change that. I am not an employee of a crude oil factory, I work here at this gas station.
I will gladly tell you where the restrooms are, even though you failed to notice the three signs in the building that all point to that very destination you were looking for. However, when you ask me and I am in the middle of giving a paying customer something they need, please don't be offended when I take a half a second to answer your question.
I'm sorry that I will not always be able to break your hundred dollar bill when you purchase something that is below five dollars. I'm not saying you are a bad person and I am not generalizing you with the felons that have robbed stores. The truth of the matter is that you can never truly trust anyone and if that means not keeping enough money in the store for people to rob, I'm sorry.
I am in fact still a person, so when you tell me that I have done something that does not meet your standards but is completely out of my control I am bound to be a little upset about it. A lot of people tend to forget that because I work in customer service I lack emotion and I don't get offended when you call me stupid in a round about way.
With all that being said, We will gladly serve you with a smile on our face. We enjoy seeing people from out of town and it would be our honor to point you in the right direction depending on where you're going. We will gladly call for help if you are in distress. We are a source for family traditions, rest stops and a place to eat. We will laugh at your jokes and cheer when you win the lottery. We are glad that you stopped here and made our day a little brighter with your compliments about how nicely we do things here.
I have met some pretty amazing people working at my job and I wouldn't trade that for the world.
