Dear Incoming College Freshman,
You're about to experience the best and worst year of your life. You will meet the most amazing people and you will finally be on your own. Just wait. You will feel so free, you'll think that the world is at your fingertips. It's exciting and scary and so, so liberating.
1. DON'T take this year for granted.
It is so important for your next four years, trust me. There are some things you need to know though.
2. DO be yourself because no one likes a faker.
3. DON'T buy every single item on those dorm checklists.
You can find them online and in stores. First of all, it is a huge expense. Second, you will only use about a third of it.
4. DO be prepared to change.
This year of your life is a big one. For me, I met some people that I know will be my lifelong friends, but that doesn't mean you should forget the old friends.
5. DON'T be afraid of upperclassmen.
Most of the time they are friendly and will help you.
I am so thankful that I am not in your shoes again. I loved it while it lasted, now I am the one that is giving you some guidance. Don't forget to call your parents and let them know that you're alive. This is the by far one of the best years of your life. Share it with the people you love.
Sincerely,
The Upperclassman That Came Before You
