Dear Campers

My final words to the 20 kids who changed my life this summer.

Dear Campers

Dear Campers,

Today was my last day working at camp and it is very hard to believe that we've spent the last eleven weeks of our lives together. It feels like I met you all an eternity ago, I hardly remember this summer before you all came into my life.

As a first-time camp counselor, I didn’t know what to expect from this summer, but I knew that I needed a part-time job to make money for college in the fall. The returning counselors gave me mixed reviews of the job; some said that it was a great way to spend the summer and others were less enthusiastic. As the weeks progressed, my part-time camp job become much more than that, it became a daily routine that I began to enjoy.

I won’t miss working long days outside in the summer heat, but I will miss all of you. I’ll miss the water balloon fights and other games that lasted long into the afternoons. The way that a simple game of hot potato with a wet sponge kept you entertained is amazing. I’ll miss riding down the waterslide into a cold pool on a hot day and diving down for your toys in the deep end. I won't miss getting pushed into the pool in my entire camp uniform (including socks and shoes), but I will miss all of you.

I won't miss the bug bites and poison ivy but I will miss all of you. I'll miss the way that you adventured through the nature trails and built your own fishing rods to use in the creek. I'll miss the excitement on your faces when you built tree forts and anxiously checked to see if they were still standing the next day. I won't miss you waving worms in my face, but I will miss all of you.

My boss once told me that we are supposed to give you the best summer of your lives and that camp is something that you will remember forever. Until I met each of you this summer, I didn’t realize how right she was, the work that we do as counselors makes a difference. Seeing you conquer your fears, make new friends and learn new things about yourselves is far more rewarding than I ever realized that it would be.

Today, when I said my final goodbye to all of you, I was tackled by 20 campers and told that I was "the best camp counselor ever," and although that is far from the truth I'm happy to know that you all appreciated me as much as I appreciated my time with all of you. Thank you all for an awesome summer, it has certainly been one that I will always remember.

Sincerely,

Your Camp Counselor

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
