Dear Best Friend, How Will I Ever Repay You?

Where do I even start with you, girl. For starters, I love you. You could never be replaced by any guy or any opportunity life throws at me. I’m not quite sure how the world brought us together, but I do know I am blessed beyond measures to have met you. As I’ve gone through life I’ve met friends who I thought I would be friends with forever, but turns out that wasn’t true. That’s okay, life happens. However, when I met you I knew we would be friends forever. You bring me so much happiness and I only hope everyone else can find someone to have this bond with.

You have been there through it all. From when I fell in love, to the ugly day that that ended and all the days after where you helped me get back on my feet. You’ve stuck with me through all my family issues and all the fake friends who left me. After everything that life has thrown at me, you have been the only constant in my life. I know I can text, call or show up at your door and you will always know what to say. You’re insanely good at always knowing what to say. It still amazes me.

I love all the times we drive around and listen to music with the windows down and yell at people walking down the street because sometimes we like to act like 12 year-olds. I won’t ever forget the times we get really drunk and talk about God, if aliens are real or about conspiracy theories. I really like that you don’t care what anyone thinks about you because you’re always the first one to dance with me or act a fool in front of anyone. You’re the only one who makes me laugh until I’m on the ground crying and snorting uncontrollably.

Although we have the best times, you’re always there for the bad times. I can walk up to you, start crying and not say a word. All you have to do is give a look that says “it’s okay, I get it” and I know that you get it. You know when I’m irritated or annoyed by the way my face looks. This type of bond is my most treasured bond in my life. You know how to make me feel better when my parents are making me mad or life is getting too hectic. I’m not sure how to ever repay you.

Not to mention, you are the most selfless person on this planet. I can come to you with anything and you will find a way to help me by all means necessary. You would sell every item you own just to help me out if needed. I promise I notice it all. I notice the things you do for me, and I wish I could gather enough words to let you know how happy I am to have you. I will never get tired of you. Sometimes we need a little break from each other, but that usually lasts about an hour and then we miss each other.

I want you to know you are an amazing person. You are more beautiful than you’ll ever be able to see. You light up a room and you make me a better person. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re less than you are because you are a treasure. Your laugh brightens everyone’s day and all the traits you obtain are indescribable. I know God put you on this earth for a multitude of reasons and for some lucky reason He made you my best friend. Thank you so much for being my rock, my best friend, my twisted sister, my psychiatrist and anything else I need you for. You are my other half. I hope you know that.

Love,

Your BFF

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
