Dear Baby Sister,

Hey, it's me. You've asked me for a while to write an article about you, but I didn't know what words to say. After being home this past weekend, we were able to spend time together and reflect on some good memories. I miss not being able to see you every day, but I hope you know how much you mean to me. I'm always a phone call away and don't you forget that.

These past few months have been hard for both of us. You started freshman year of high school, and I freshman year of college. While we are encountering new experiences, I hope you remember to stay true to yourself. High school is hard, but it's definitely not the end of the world. You'll take hard classes, go to football games, dress up with your friends, and meet lots of cute boys. My best advice is to stay true to yourself and keep your head held high. You're so smart Panda bear, and don't you forget that.

I've watched you blossom from the day you were born. From a small, feisty girl to an outgoing, sassy teen. You get on my nerves, (most of the time), but I wouldn't have it any other way. You're my shopping gal, my movie partner, and a spitball of fire. We fight and argue over the smallest issues but always seem to work it out. I am so proud of you and everything you have done and will continue to be throughout your lifetime. I'm your biggest fan and don't you forget that.

I wish I could tell you that this life was easy, but unfortunately, I can't. You'll make mistakes. Lots of them at that. But that's what makes this life interesting baby girl. You're going to fall on your face and then have to get back up. I can make you a few promises, however, that when life comes crashing down, I'll always be there. Need a high five? I gotchu. Need an iced coffee? I gotchu. I'll be there to catch you every time you fall, and don't you forget that.

I've learned a few things from being your big sister, and I hope you don't make the same mistakes I did. Remember that your beauty is not reflected from your outward appearance and that your worth should be found in Christ, not in anything else. Be wild and adventurous, for this life is too short to not take any chances. Make friends. Have fun. Take care of Mom and Austin for me. They're your biggest supporters, and don't you forget that.

It's crazy to think you're about to turn the big 1-5 in just a few months. I remember playing Barbie dolls and watching Dora with you every Saturday morning when we were younger. Oh, how I miss those carefree days. Watching you grow up into a beautiful, talented woman, I hope you would know how much you mean to me. You deserve all the happiness in the world and every wish your heart desires.

I'll love you forever Panda bear, and don't you forget that.

- Ash

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
