Dear America, This Isn't The End

"We are not doomed."

Dear Americans,

Don't worry, we are not "doomed." I am addressing everyone when I say Americans. The red, the blue, and those of you who are in between. Today is a scary day for all of us, and at the end of all of this, half of us will be quite angry. We may think that this will be the end of us, but it is not. Our country has survived many great obstacles. The Election of 2016 is not the worst thing that has happened to our country. No matter who is elected, no matter what choices they make, it'll be fine.

The Great Depression lasted 10 years, but at the time Americans believed it would never end and that they would never see a brighter day.

New Yorkers believed they would never have hope again after 9/11 destroyed the World Trade Center.

Less than 100 years ago young girls believed they would never get to see the inside of a voting booth.

Our country has been through some tough times, but it was never the end of us even if we believed it was because we stayed strong and we stayed united. We got out of the depression, two years ago a new World Trade Center was built, and today the first woman in U.S. history holds the nomination for a major political party.

What I'm trying to tell you is, we'll be okay. Whether we, as a country, decide we want to "Make America Great Again" or "We're With Her," we'll be fine. It's just four years, and we're tough, we can stay strong if things don't work out.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
