Let's find our hope in Christ

Dear America

Dear America,

It’s been quite the week hasn’t it? The day reckoning (Election day) and the days following have been all over the place this week. It’s been quite the challenge to channel everything that’s happened. Donald Trump rose to victory, and isn’t that a good thing? It would be a disgrace for to all women to have the first woman in the white house to be a liar, a crook and a criminal. Is that what we want? Is that what America is striving for? I don’t think so.

We in America are about freedom and we are about honoring the veterans who fought so hard for those freedoms. We are about the constitution and we are about fighting for those rights that the constitution holds. Are we not?

But here’s the thing, America –

This week, I am heartbroken. I am heartbroken over what is happening in our country. Donald Trump won the election, and he won fairly. But those who voted for Hillary or didn’t vote at all are upset about their candidate losing. Sure, you can be upset. Losing sucks. But when losing makes you cross the line, that’s when you need to check yourself. Riots have broken out and violence and hate crimes are taking place. What is this America? Why are you doing this? Also, why are we burning the American flag?

Do you not love your country? Do you realize that burning the flag is disrespecting every man and woman who has fought for your freedom in this country? This is not okay and it never will be okay. Of course, burning a flag is a sign of protest if you are against a country. Do you hate America? If you do, please, go to a country that you love. Burning the American flag isn’t waving disapproval at Mr. Donald Trump. It’s disrespectful, dishonoring and yes, you can be arrested for the action.

We have freedom of speech. Protest, yell, scream or do whatever it is you need to do but please, think before you do so. Violence is never the answer and either is burning the flag that honors our 50 states and honors the men and women who have fought for our freedom. The world is watching us, and right now, we can only wonder what they are thinking. Donald Trump isn’t ruining America, the people who are practicing violence and rioting are.

Let’s not wish death upon people or call for an assassination on our president. No. That is not a protest. That is violence and that is bullying. You say you are against bullying but yet you bully those who voted for the president elect. You bully the president. You bully those who don’t think like you. No. No. Bullying, violence, hate crimes and declaring death on someone is NEVER okay.

What happened to you, America? Why are we burning the American flag to make a point? Why are we rioting? Why are we turning to violence? Donald Trump isn’t even our president yet. Instead of turning to violence and hate crimes, how about we pray for our president. How about we pray that he makes a great leader for this country. Let’s pray that he does make America great again. Let’s pray for our nation. Let’s come together as a nation and pray for the leadership that has been elected into office.

Overall, no matter who is in office, God is sovereign. He is in control of what happens to this country. He still sits on the throne, and He is our God almighty. We can’t look to a person because he’s only human. Humans make mistakes because we as humans are broken and frail people. We’re imperfect. Why are we placing all of our trust in a human being? No. Let’s place our trust in the God almighty who already knows what’s going to happen in the next four years. Let’s place our trust in a God who created this world and created you and me. Let’s draw near to the Lord as this new leadership takes the white house. Let’s pray for our nation, America.

Let’s pray for our nation America. Let’s find our hope in Christ.

God bless America and God bless you..

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
