Dear America, I need a break.
There's a dark cloud over our nation that we can't seem to shake.
There's many words to our brother explaining his mistake.
There are rules for our sisters, rules they can't seem to break.
There's a bifurcation that we the people create.
There's a misunderstanding of what it means to be great.
There's a better chance here, one with much less hate.
There's a scared people who attack to defend their fate.
But there's an ironic factor, where this attacking just creates more hate.
If you're listening at all now, try and grasp these words.
You aren't fixing anything by "giving people what they deserve."
If you hate your neighbor for their race, gender, sexuality or even their VOTE,
Then, your soul is more troubled than your Facebook posts will ever show.
Learn from the past about how the future might go.
Everyone is angry, but the answer is on the high road.
I wouldn't say this if I didn't hope it might make,
for one more person who sees that divide is a mistake.
You may not be ready to come together with those who don't agree,
but I hope you get ready before the hatred is all we can see.
There's a group of people, whose voices can partake.
There's a certain dialogue that can truly make this country great.
There's an entire nation, which love can overtake.
There's an opportunity to not make another mistake.
I know we can get there, but how long is it going to take?
Because until then, dear America, I need a break.
