One of the most stressful aspects of being a college student is finances. Being away from home for the first time and having to buy all my own necessities, I've realized money comes and goes faster than my ex.
Thankfully, I've discovered that there are a lot of companies that have our backs as students. Here are a few deals and discounts college students are eligible for that can help you savor that $25 your mom cash-apped you for “gas.”
1. Spotify/Hulu
Spotify is a music streaming services that normally would cost $9.99 a month. If you sign up using your student email ending in ".edu," you can get the student membership. This cuts the monthly fee in half to $4.99.
The best part about this deal, to me, is that, along with the student membership to Spotify, you also get Hulu’s Limited Commercials Plan for FREE. If you didn't know, Hulu allows you to stream full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, Hulu Originals and episodes of your favorite shows the day after they air live on TV. In other words, here's a perfect excuse to binge watch Grey's Anatomy all weekend.
2. Apple Music
Apple music is another music streaming service that is essentially the same as Spotify, except for the fact that Apple Music works exclusively on Apple products.
A feature Apple Music provides that Spotify doesn't is live radio streaming around the world. Apple also has DJs who run the stations and promise to play great music, discuss what's hot in music, and offer exclusive interviews.
3. Amazon Prime
This was hands-down my favorite deal I got as a student, and I abused it as much as I could. Again, all you need to qualify is a student email ending in ".edu." Once you sign up for the student membership, you'll get six months free of all the features Amazon Prime has to offer.
Most people know that with Amazon Prime you’re blessed with free two-day shipping on millions of items. As a college student, this can come in handy at many times. You could get snacks, tide pods (not a snack), shampoo, school supplies, etc. delivered to you for free in two days.
Other benefits of this deal are unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows, access to Prime Music, and access to unlimited photo storage with Prime Photos.
4. Microsoft Office
While this deal doesn't give you any enjoyable services like streaming music, it's something that you need as a college student. If you sign up with your student email, you can get Microsoft Office 365 for free. This deal includes Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and some other features.
5. UNiDAYS
This site is the holy grail of student discounts. Once you sign up, you get exclusive offers from a variety of different options. Some categories on the UNiDAYS home page include fashion, health and fitness, beauty, lifestyle, food, and tech.
Some of the best deals I've found are 10 percent off a purchase of UGGs, 15 percent off Adidas, 10 percent off Charlotte Russe, a $25 e-gift card to Sams Club, a $100 delivery fee credit for Postmates, and so much more.
6. Participating locations only
Unfortunately, not every location of these chain restaurants will participate in the following discounts, so be sure to call and ask before you get your hopes up.
Subway, Buffalo Wild Wings, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, and Firehouse Subs offer 10 percent off your total purchase with a valid student ID. At many Chick-fil-A and Chipotle locations, you can get a free drink with your valid student ID. Often times, local establishments will offer student discounts (a movie theater, local diner, etc.) So don't be afraid to ask, especially when you're in a college town.
