Pretty much everyone can attest to having writer's block; whether you're writing an essay, working on your novel, or trying to meet your deadline for a piece you're working on. Wouldn't you know it, I'm sort of struggling with writer's block myself.
What is writer's block, exactly? Google defines it as, "the condition of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing." Sound pretty accurate? This is most definitely true for me. I suppose, however, it's not always a lack of writing, but just a lack of writing something good. Something meaningful. I know there is always something I can write, but there's not always something I want to write, or I feel passionate about writing at that moment in time.
Writing novels, for example, take time. You want your characters to act a certain way or say certain things, but you don't want them to come across as cheesy or stupid, so you sit and sit and sit at your computer, trying to create the perfect words, but nothing comes to you. This is when you should just start typing. Even if it's all terrible, something great can come out if it.
Author Dandi Daley Mackall told our English 405 class in the spring of 2015 that sometimes even when you think what you're writing is crap, keep writing. You might find something salvageable in that crap.
