Having to commute back and forth from one city to another city within parts of Southern California can be pretty rough. Recently, I, myself have moved to another city, but still work in the city where I resided before moving. And traffic is a hassle. California has probably some of the worst bumper to bumper to bumper traffic I have experienced.
There are just a few things I want recommend, so that maybe, just maybe, their commute can go a little bit smoother.
1. Utilize Google Maps or some form of mapping app.
It makes life so much easier because it tracks the amount of traffic that you might have to deal with when you are in the car. These type of apps also can show you alternate routes that have less traffic.
2. Give yourself some time and leave about half an hour earlier than you usually would.
This then gives you some time between the time you leave and the time you have to be at your destination and it will stress you out less.
3. Listen to music that keeps you from stressing.
It's so easy to let your stress get the best of you, but everyone has that song or playlist that keeps them sane. Figure out what that is and keep it handy so that you are able to access it when you need it the most.
4. Make sure you have gas.
I know it might seem crazy. How could you neglect whether you have gas or not? You're in a rush, you have the thought of all the traffic on your mind and then before you know it you're driving down the freeway and your on empty and you have to make a stop. As if traffic wasn't already a major inconvenience.
5. Find backstreets.
Backstreets make life so much better. For me, I found a backstreet that leads close to my work destination. So when I see the traffic starting to get worse, I get off the freeway and take that street because it helps so much.
