Ahhhh the holiday season. Where everything tastes like peppermint. Snowflakes are everywhere. There's tons of parties to attend. It's truly the most wonderful time of the year. But unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. If you're like me, you have a lot of build up to Christmas, and once it's over you have no idea what to do. Here are some tips on how to enjoy life despite Christmas being over.
1. Take advice from "Elf."
Christmas DOES NOT have to end on December 26. Keep it going until New Year's. Or maybe Valentine's Day. Or Christmas in July! The possibilities are endless.
2. Look forward to the next holiday.
If you don't want to celebrate Christmas all year 'round, then use this opportunity to get excited about another holiday. I usually go for St. Patrick's Day. I guess I just love holidays involving the color green.
3. Move somewhere with a warmer climate.
It's hard to not dream about Christmas when it's snowing and you're miserable. Christmas is the only time that cold weather is acceptable. Let's be honest, this is the main reason I moved to California.
4. Leave some decorations up.
It's okay to leave a statue of Santa up if you want. Sometimes you just need that subtle reminder that eventually Christmas will come again.
5. Take up a hobby.
Get your mind off of Christmas by doing something completely unrelated. Maybe go bird watching. Or take a yoga class. Do you like acting? Join an improv group!
6. Give back to the community.
Take this time to do something nice for someone else. Volunteer somewhere and help others. So many people are charitable during the holiday season, which is great. But let's not forget about the rest of the year!
7. Start a new series on Netflix.
Or finish one! I need to catch up on the last two seasons of "Once Upon A Time."
8. Plan a trip.
This will help you look forward to something in the next year. It'll also keep you busy over the next few months.
9. Know that Christmas will be here again before you know it!
Perhaps celebrating it once a year is what makes us appreciate the holiday so much. Keep your head up. No one's going to cancel Christmas next year.
