So, What's The Deal With Hydro Flasks?

If you have been to a college campus in Southern California, you're most definitely familiar with the concept of Hydro Flasks. Usually plastered with stickers and full of dents, they're kind of hard to miss when walking from class to class. You can always pick out the Hydro Flask owners in a classroom because they're the ones that audibly cringe when someone drops one on a hard surface.

For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, let me clue you in. Hydro Flasks are, as you may have deduced from the name, water bottles. The original Hydro Flask can be bought in 7 sizes, ranging from 12 to 64 ounces, in a variety of colors. The Hydro Flask website boasts that their bottles can keep beverages hot or cold "hour after hour."

Seems like just your normal, run of the mill, insulated water bottle, right? Wrong.

Hydro Flasks are everywhere. They're pretty much the go-to accessory for college students. From where I'm sitting in my school library right now, I can see at least seven within 30 feet of me. If I were to venture out onto campus at this very moment, I'm sure I could easily spot 50 in a matter of minutes.

At one point, my university's bookstore had an impressive display of Hydro Flasks in our school colors. On-campus organizations have done giveaways of these bottles and throngs of students lined up for the chance to get one.

At this point, you may be wondering why these seemingly average water bottles are so popular. What sets them apart from literally any other metal water bottle I could go out and buy right now?

Before I answer that, I must make a confession: I am a proud Hydro Flask owner. I received a purple, 32-ounce Hydro Flask for Christmas 2016 and it has not left my side since. I'd say it's probably right below my phone, keys, and wallet on my list of things I don't leave home without.

But why? Why are people so crazy obsessed with these bottles? I've had numerous people ask me if it was worth it to drop $40 on something they could buy at Costco for half the price. I've always said yes.

First and foremost, Hydro Flasks are great because they really do follow through on their claim that the bottles keep things at the desired temperature for a really long time. As long as I fill the bottle with enough ice, I've known it to keep my water cold for over 24 hours.

But really, I think the prevalence and borderline obsession with Hydro Flasks stem from their trendiness. People buy them because all their friends have one, and then realize that it's a useful, quality product. Don't ask me how the trend started, all I know is that it's spreading like wildfire.

If you're on the fence about hopping on the Hydro Flask bandwagon, here's what I'll tell you. Since owning mine, I've actually been more inclined to drink water and I've felt healthier because of it. It's making healthy water consumption trendy! Decorating it and making it your own makes it something fun and cute that you're not self-conscious about carrying around all day.

So, all-in-all, I think the Hydro Flask deserves the hype that it's gotten. It does its job and is a cute accessory to boot. So, rock on Hydro owners.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
