'Deadpool' Is Not Cool

Unless you're an adult.

'Deadpool' Is Not Cool

Superheroes are great. Kids and adults everywhere love them. They're positive role models, and they fight for the greater good and the safety of others. But not Deadpool.

Deadpool, quite frankly, is a jerk. He's vulgar, has a twisted sense of humor and kills people just for the hell of it. Yes, he has an endgame in mind, but do you really want your children thinking that it's OK to seek revenge because someone made you ugly? I sure wouldn't, and that's my point.

As a college student, I think Deadpool is rad as hell. He's vulgar, has a twisted sense of humor, and he kills people just for the hell of it! I don't mind a couple hundred F-bombs here or there, and I think that sex jokes are funny. But I surely would not want my 4-year-old brother exposed to Deadpool's antics.

Yet somehow, I still saw adults bringing their pre-teen children to see "Deadpool" on its opening weekend. I'm sorry to have to say this, but why? Why would you ever think that it's okay to bring a child to not only an R-rated movie, but to "Deadpool"? I don't care how mature you think your child is. That's just not the content that they need to be viewing.

"Deadpool" is gory. There was blood everywhere, and I know that at least one head was chopped clean off. Deadpool even sawed off his own hand for goodness sake!

Deadpool is vulgar. His language is something that my mother would still slap me for today. It's honestly worse than listening to my stepdad watching college football.

Deadpool is highly sexual. There is an entire montage of Wade Wilson and Vanessa just going at it on every holiday known to man. Not to mention the club scene, about which the only comment I heard was, "Boobies."

Deadpool isn't being Deadpool for the right reasons. He quite literally decided to start killing people just to get revenge because his "life-saving" procedure made him ugly. He didn't start being Deadpool for the greater good or for any selfless reason. Sure, toward the end he's trying to save the love of his life. But, honestly, Deadpool's unrivaled belief in true love is the only thing remotely pure or decent about him.

I'm not saying that he's not awesome. Honestly, I think that Superman has just been kicked out of the number one superhero spot in my mind. I just don't think that "Deadpool" is cool for kids to be watching. They put ratings on movies for a reason, people.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
