Your mind and body tend to take a serious toll when you’re stressed. When you’re frequently overwhelmed and under pressure, you strain your mental and physical health. You worry excessively. You have irrational thoughts. Trust me, we’ve all been there. I’ve finally figured out what to do to manage my stress and I figured it was time to share my medicine. Here are the remedies I use almost daily to help ease my anxiety and better my mental wellness.
Self-Care: Indulging in self-care remedies is my all-time favorite thing to do, especially after a long day. I tend to take warm baths, read some chapters of a book, journal, and even watch an episode of Friends. I immediately feel so much more relaxed when I’m done with all my self-pampering. Working out and meditation has also helped me stay calm in my worst of days and they’re both a great detox to use when you’re feeling frazzled. I suggest setting aside at least an hour before bed to do these things and I promise you’ll wake up refreshed, energized, and prepared for the day ahead of you!
Call Your Mom: Who better to vent to than the women who knows you better than you know yourself? Being far away from your mom makes her eager to hear all your problems, so when you call her to share your experiences, it makes her feel like you still need her around. Ten out of the ten times she’ll make you feel better no matter how bad the issues are that you’re dealing with. You can also just call her to say hi, I promise that will make her day so much brighter.
Recognize the Situation: Once you are aware of the situation you’re in, it becomes a lot easier to task. Normally, when you are feeling stressed and anxious, it’s most likely because you have to get something done in a limited amount of time. Deadlines for school presentations and work-related matters always make people feel tense and like their world is imploding. Instead of procrastinating, change your mindset. Think opposite of the saying “one step forward, two steps back.” Instead, try to take one step back to reevaluate the position you’re in so that you are able to move two steps forward.
Move Forward: Once you’re in the stage of moving forward, you should use the 5-by-5 rule to help guide your way to the top. If it isn’t going to matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes worrying about it. I have been living by this mantra for the past few weeks and it has helped me become more aware of the things that really matter, which ultimately help me stress a lot less.
So remember, you should always be moving forward; never back. Life should be positive and fun. Whenever you find yourself in a slump, do these engaging antidotes to keep you on track. Your success is important, so stay focused. I have no doubt you’ll prosper.
