7 Tips To De-Stress College Move-In

College move-in season is upon us, folks. It can be fun, overwhelming, nostalgic and definitely stressful at times. With all of this stress, it can be easy to feel scattered, so here are some tips to make move in as easy as possible.

1. Spread out the shopping

This is especially important if you're moving into a suite or apartment. Buying everything you need can be quite expensive, so it is helpful to spread out the shopping over several weeks before the big day. Maybe shop for the bedroom one weekend, and the bathroom the next.

2. Visit the place ahead of time

It's never a bad idea to scout the place out before you move in. Most colleges won't let you see the inside of your dorm/apartment ahead of time, but it would be helpful to see where it's located, where you can park, etc. This way you won't be shocked by anything on move-in day.

3. Don't overpack

It is EXTREMELY easy to overpack when moving to college. Because of this, it is very important to be critical when choosing what to bring. You don't want to be short on space, so try to prioritize the most important items. You can always bring more from home if you need it.

4. Plan ahead of time

The great thing about moving to college is that there are a lot of resources available to help you. Places like Bed Bath and Beyond have a list of things you will need for your new apartment. It is also helpful to plan for the day itself. What time will you leave? What will you unpack first? Having all of this sorted out ahead of time will help minimize stress for the whole family.

5. Bring healthy snacks

Move-in day will take a ton of energy. Be sure to load up on healthy snacks so that you have the energy to get everything done.

6. Don't worry about having everything for the first day

It might seem like you have to have everything you would ever need for move-in day. The truth is, it is always possible to get things you need or forgot after that first day. Make a list after you move in of everything you need, and you can always get them later.

7. Enjoy it!!!

As stressful as moving to college can be, it truly is a fun and exciting experience. So don't stress too hard and enjoy this time with your family and friends!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
