In case you missed it, famous actor Robert De Niro shared a brash opinion at the Tonys on June 10th, 2018 about our president, Donald Trump. Simply said, De Niro took the stage to introduce the musical guest and preceded the introduction with "F*ck Trump," which received thunderous applause in return. However, both sides (left, right; republican, democratic; conservative, liberal; tomayto, tomahto) agreed that his display was uncalled for.
Being from a liberal community, formerly on an education track in college, and a part of the music scene (a typically liberal community as well), I was not affected by De Niro's claim. To be honest, it is not uncommon to hear those sentiments from the people around me. But that's not why I'm writing this article.
I tend to turn a blind eye towards news programs for their notorious biases and panhandling to their own people. You may call it ignorance, I like to call it not getting frustrated by the state of the world and sticking to fictional worlds and games. But what brought this clip to my forefront was a news article published by Fox News about the situation.
First thing: the video clip. "Probably a good actor," says Brian Kilmeade. Awesome, I'm glad he's done his research. "Good reason not to watch 'Meet the Parents' or 'Meet the Parents 2'." Ah, so you don't know if he's a good actor, but you do know how to use IMDB to make a witty point. Same.
I'm also pretty sure that Lisa Boothe is a shark. Not a political shark, but an Animorphs shark. If she smiles any bigger, she'll show an extra two rows of teeth.
Antjuan Seawright (who seems to be named using iPhone Speech-to-Text) makes a reasonable point about how Trump has shown using that kind of language and displays of inconsiderate opinions are acceptable now.
Naturally, Brian swept over the valid argument of the Democratic Strategist to get support from Jaws while also calling De Niro dumb. He also attempted to defend Trump's use of foul language by saying it was said "not at the Tonys." Yeah? Well, most of it was said as President of the United States on live television about large factions of people, which is arguably worse.
Jabberjaw continues to call the resistance stupid, "providing no solutions," and pathetic. However, these weren't the only anchors who addressed De Niro's display with vitriolic jabs.
I'll be honest, I'm doing exactly what Greg Gutfeld does right now. Same as Trevor Noah, Stephen Colbert, and John Oliver. The difference is that Fox News claims to be a reliable news source. Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...
Second thing, everyone is just playing with fire (even me, right now). Civil discussions have gone out the window, listening to people is overrated, and mocking has become a "viable" rhetorical strategy. If you don't believe me: watch any Trump debate ever.
The only reason that this article exists is because I listened, did some research, and decided to share my findings. If you've read this far in the article, please continue to do research and avoid the heavily biased media.
