Superhero movies have taken over much of the year in the cinema in recent years with the two major being DC Comics and Marvel. It has become a showdown of one-liner, fight scenes, and epic battles. Each has their ways of attracting moviegoers with most including casting big name actors and taking over the summer. Here are some reasons as to why DC takes the win in my book.

I am partial to DC given that Batman is my personal favorite superhero. A tortured soul that takes justice into his own hands and puts his billions to good use. No magic and superpowers (for the most part) just a man in a suit with a bunch of pretty cool gadgets. The Dark Knight Trilogy has also what instigated my appreciation for all movies. This trilogy was epic, symbolic, meaningful, and so much more that it not only made superhero movies cool but showed they could be good movies.

DC brings to the table what Marvel stays away from, darkness. This is what makes DC so appealing, it shows the true characteristics of a superhero, that it comes with drastic decisions. You can only watch the Avengers bicker for so long and hear so many one liners from Tony Stark to fall into the stereotypical superhero movie. DC rivals Marvel but also itself to find a way to expand its humor, darkness, character arcs, and storylines. Marvel tends to stick to a formula and it works but DC gets my vote because every film finds its own right. Even with the reinvention of Batman four years after Christian Bale hung up the cape, it’s an entirely new Batman but still Gotham City.

Marvel has started to lean towards its own darkness with the villain of Ultron in the most recent Avengers and Marvel’s Daredevil which triggers its own mind games with human nature. Marvel still has its glam and bright colors but DC takes the cake in this world. Superhero movies and television shows the struggle, like all movies and TV, with being realistic. DC battles this well with developing its characters with strong themes and dazzling cinematic elements.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is a perfect example of DC reinventing itself to tell another story. DC still carries its darkness but with a new Batman, a new Lex Luthor, and introducing Wonder Woman. Marvel may have wit and big casts and DC may not always come out on top but DC still has its charisma and historic heroes that keep its movies remarkable.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
