DC Needs To Stop Making Batman Movies

Whether he is "The Caped Crusader" or "The Dark Knight," he is still the same character, and it's getting old.

DC Needs To Stop Making Batman Movies

Batman is without a doubt my favorite superhero. After seeing the 1989 Tim Burton "Batman," I was hooked. I was pulled in again by Christopher Nolan's incredible "Batman" trilogy.

However, I clocked out with the recent Ben Affleck portrayal of the iconic character in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League." The problem with those movies wasn't Affleck's portrayal, but more of a sense of weariness the movies carried, considering one of the best adaptations of this character had been released four years prior.

The truth of the matter is, DC needs to step back from Batman altogether.

DC has already confirmed plans of a new Batman movie with a newly announced actor taking over the role from Affleck. Yawn. Batman is one of the most famous superheroes to ever exist, and the amount of movies Batman has spawned is proof. But, is another one really necessary?

We have seen so many different actors portray "The Caped Crusader" that there is almost nothing they can do to shed light on a new perspective of this character. We've seen it all.

It's no secret that the DCEU is in some hot water after the flop of "Justice League," what was supposed to be DC's biggest release. However, a new Batman is not the way to go. Apparently, their plan for the new movie is to focus on a younger Bruce Wayne. To me, this signifies another origin story. Lord knows we have enough superhero origin stories in movies to last us decades.

It's obvious that DC is trying to copy Marvel's success, but to no avail.

After Marvel found a formula that seemed to work for them, DC tried to copy their format by releasing solo superhero movies and then bringing them all together to fight a big bad in "Justice League." This movie serves as an example of how one size does not fit all.

DC continues to miss the mark with their movies, and nothing they do seems to be working for them. Whenever something fails for them, they turn to Batman to fix their problems. They have yet to learn that this strategy is not working for them.

Not only do they reboot the character of Batman, but they also reboot his villains in attempts to gain interest. "Suicide Squad" is an example of this. They even plan on rebooting the Joker again in an upcoming movie starring Joaquin Phoenix. I'm sorry, but no matter how good of an actor they cast to play The Joker, none of them will be as good as Heath Ledger.

In all honesty, DC needs to scrap every movie they have planned altogether, and start fresh. Their movies in recent years have been messy and poorly executed, and if they keep up with the same plan, they will continue to be negatively received.

DC needs to stop copying Marvel and come up with a new way to make superhero movies because everything they are putting out, we've already seen before. And for goodness sake, stop using Batman as your backup plan when all goes wrong.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
