Pinterest has served as a homemade remedy for boredom for nearly five years. It is here where dreams of perfectly prepped cake pops and Christmas crafts come to die. Everyone, whether they admit it or not, is guilty of pinning things that they will never do, and probably have no intentions of ever doing.
1. DIY projects.
How many painted canvases with inspirational quotes are really that necessary? The limit does not exist. I guess not everyone can be Martha Stewart.
2. Makeup tips.
Following an online makeup tutorial will more than likely leave you looking like a clown with two black eyes. I think it’s safe to say the people in the picture end up turning out much better.
3. Dream home ideas.
Yes, of course that Victorian home with the infinity pool is realistic. Maybe we should start creating dream salary boards instead!
4. Future wedding plans.
The first thing everyone does when they get engaged is check up on their “Dream Wedding <3 <3 <3” board. Chances are you forgot about all those extravagant wedding ideas you pinned when you were 15 years old.
5. Nail art.
Please tell me the last time doing your own nails at home worked out well? You most likely don’t have the time, the patience, or the talent to paint tiny reindeer on your pinky fingers. Not to mention trying to paint the other hand.
6. Hairstyles.
You are 20 years old; why are you still pinning hairstyles on your “Prom” board?
7. Recipes.
Never pin on an empty stomach, or else you will find your feed flooded with cheesy buffalo chicken bombs, homemade granola and mac & cheese stuffed grilled cheese. Now, you’re starving and just really regret ever checking Pinterest in the first place. To top it off, you’ll never be able to taste this food because you’ll never actually make it.
8. Workout routines.
They sound great at first, but sometimes just thinking about the 30-day squat challenge will convince you to switch to the 30-day napping challenge -- it’s much more your speed.
9. Tattoos.
Unless you plan to tat yourself up with white ink infinity tattoos, I don’t think you’ll be turning to your Pinterest board for ink inspiration.
10. Clothes to buy.
Has anyone ever even attempted to buy any of the clothes they’ve pinned? Can you even do that? Where do these clothes actually come from? Are they even real?
So, while Pinterest has the potential to bring out the crafty, stylish, and fit side in all of us, the reality is that all it will ever be is potential. Our Pinterest boards allow us to feel like we are well dressed and well fed, all from the comfort of our bed. What a time to be alive!
