Wake Up and Dance!

Attention dance lovers and fitness enthusiasts! Daybreaker has arrived in Denver! Imagine waking up and starting your day with dance! Imagine arriving to the office energized and full of good vibes. That is exactly how I started my work day last week after the very first Daybreaker event in Denver.

Daybreaker is a monthly dance & fitness event that’s held early in morning. I heard about these morning dance parties a while back that had everything your normal party scene would have minus the people under the influence of drugs & alcohol. I thought it would be so awesome to be around a group of people that just love to dance without having to be drunk to do it! Well my prayers were answered when I found out that Daybreaker was coming to Denver! After receiving over 2,000 signatures from people who expressed interest in brining this party to Denver, they decided to expand to the Mile High City. They are now in 16 cities across the US.

The party was held in basically one of the coolest venues possible in Denver: at the United Club at the Denver Bronco’s stadium. When I walked in I was greeted with a hug. He said, “Welcome! Would you like a hug? It’s literally my job to hug you.” Awesome first impression. Especially since I arrived alone. And I adore hugs. Then I went up the escalator and was greeted with smiles and another hug! This time from someone who I felt like I knew because we follow each other on Snapchat. We had never met in person until that point when she greeted me with a hug!

Here’s how Daybreaker describes their parties on their website, “Daybreaker is a morning dance party that will start your day with energy & intention. At Daybreaker, we dance our faces off before work and feel gloriously healthy while doing so. We gather in community to participate in something greater than ourselves.”

I had a blast. The djs were sick, the staff is so full of energy, the free coffee and food selection was point, and the vibes were amazing! They also had great talent like mcs, breakdancers, and acro yogis. Some of the Denver Broncos cheerleaders were there too dancing on stage! The next one probably won’t be on the Club Level at the football stadium, but I’m sure it’ll be held somewhere wonderful.

When I got to work I was so energized and full of life! Which made me realize I should probably go back to morning workouts.

If you’re interested in dancing your morning away for the next Daybreaker party, make sure you sign up for their newsletter at www.daybreaker.com so you don’t miss the announcements. The parties will be held monthly either in Denver or Boulder. I am so excited. I was just thinking about how I need more dance in my life and then this popped up. Hopefully, I’ll see some of you awesome people on the dance floor!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
