The Super Bowl is not just the most watched sporting event in the country. According to CBS Sports, over 114 million people last year watched Super Bowl 49 between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. The game was an exciting match-up that ended up being one of the best Super Bowls of all time. That game had a ton of story lines, and the matchup this season has just as many story lines. With that many people watching an event there is a sure argument to have the next day be a national holiday. This game could potentially break the record for the most viewed event in TV history. It could possibly be Peyton Manning’s last game, and if he wins, he can ride off into the sunset like John Elway and Jerome Bettis did in their final games.
With nearly a third of the country watching, the day after the Super Bowl should be a national holiday.
People do not want to go to work, go to school or do anything the day after the Super Bowl. People are more than likely hungover, tired and in no shape to get anything productive done the next day. Watching the Super Bowl is an all-day event. Many people host Super Bowl parties that require a lot of time and planning. The last thing these people want to do the next day is to go to work or school. People who watch the Super Bowl are not the only ones affected either. The Super Bowl is the busiest day for some in the food and beverage industry. They spend hours planning and serving everybody and making sure everything is right for Super Bowl Sunday. They sure are owed the next day off because they put a lot of time and effort into making sure the day is great for everyone.
The day after the Super Bowl should be a national holiday. Nobody wants to do anything the day after the Super Bowl, and production comes at a standstill on this day. We owe not only to the people watching the game but also to the ones who work in the food and beverage industry to have the day as a national holiday.
