A Day In the Life of A College Student

Don't worry, college is great.

You begin your day by snoozing your alarm about 3 times before you actually get a slight burst of energy to roll out of bed. After lazily brushing your teeth, you will try to pick out a nice outfit. After staring at your closet trying to mentally put together a decent outfit, you decide to revert back to the leggings, sweatshirt, and baseball cap look. You attempt to make myself feel better by telling yourself; comfort over appearance. You’ll throw your hair in a messy bun or braid, or straighten it if you’re feeling motivated that day, and very rarely will you have the energy to do more makeup than some mascara, if that.

After throwing your materials into your backpack, you will stumble off to class, wishing you could go back to bed. After arriving at your first class, you will sit on your phone for about 20 minutes, or zone out, daydream, etc. then finally tune back into class, realizing you just missed 8 slides of notes, but you don’t really care.

After you finish all your classes for the day, the first thing you want to do is take a nap, and trust me, you will. You tell yourself it will only be 45 minutes, or an hour, but you wake up 3 hours later confused and wondering why you slept through dinner. You lazily get up and rush to the dining hall before it closes to get an unsatisfactory meal to try and motivate you to get your homework done before 11 o’clock at night.

You get back to your room, longing for a few episodes of your favorite Netflix show, and you will do that because you are procrastinating to avoid homework. 2-3 hours later, you realize 11 o’clock has rolled around and you haven’t done any of your homework. You open your backpack to find you have a 3 page essay due tomorrow morning, and sit staring at your laptop wondering what to write about.

But don’t get me wrong. Although the days are long and the nights are short, college is amazing. You’re friends are always there to hangout with and talk whenever you need, and you will have movie nights, dinner dates, and workout together to motivate each other. Doing things with people makes it more bearable, so if you ever cannot focus on homework, text a friend and ask to do homework together. Take a break and go workout or go for a run, it will make you happier. Although you may be stressed one night, it gets better and the problems you are stressed about rarely last more than a week, at max. Think about the future, will this matter in 4 days? Probably not, so do not worry about it. Enjoy college life because it amazing to be independent and to be in control of your own life.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
