I waited in anticipation the whole year for The Gilmore Girls' revival to debut on Netflix. I took a PTO day at work, and I made it a point to tell my wife and kids that I wasn't doing much but watching this show all day Friday! I was serious, and for good reason, because this revival made my life! It was everything I'd hoped, my only complaint is it's over and it wasn't long enough.
You have to understand, I have all the seasons on DVD and I have watched them more than once, probably more than 5 times (before kids, of course). This was my go-to show, if I needed something to watch, well The Gilmore Girls was always there. Heck, I've even started the Rory Gilmore Book Challenge for the last 3 years as a New Year's Resolution. I am pretty dedicated to The Gilmore Girls. Do you remember Rock Band on PlayStation, well my sister and I were even coined The Gilmore Whores as our Rock Band name. That's dedication!
The revival was everything, from the beginning credits, which had me in tears as soon as it started (and throughout, regularly) to the cliff-hanger at the end that has my hopes soaring to the sky that there will be more revivals to come. The cast looked the same, but older, Lorelai and Rory were fabulous as always, I was a little disappointed that she didn't take the Stars Hallow Gazette to the next level, she had the experience and she had the job, she should have taken that paper to something that I know she could. Overall, the grown-up version of Rory was a little questioning. But I did see her start to get her direction towards the middle and end of the series.
I also wish Taylor would have come out of the closet, they sure pushed it and it just wasn't happening. Taylor's musical about Stars Hollow did give me life. It was hilarious and catchy.
The wit was there, the bantor was there, the charm was there. The memory of Richard Gilmore was there, the larger than life portrait was an accurate portrayal of his character on the show. He was a staple and his death (in real life and on the show) was devastating.
I loved the show, I can't wait to find out there will be more, I will remain a fan no matter the outcome. I will most likely watch the revival 500 times and only feel mildly guilty about it. The revival was worth the wait.
