David Hockney was and still is one of the most important painters of the 20th and 21st centuries. The now 80-year-old artist was an integral part of the British pop-art movement of the '60s. Hockney has used his identity as one of his main motivations and subjects; growing up in a time of social persecution and change, Hockney lived through the mid-late20th century as a gay man. This, his exciting environment of southern California, and an interest in composition and light has motivated Hockney's immersive and eclectic ouevre.
