To The Mothers Whose Daughters Are Moving Out, Sorry, Thank You, We Love You
Zoey Leonard

Dear Mom,

It feels like yesterday that you were sending me to my first day of school. You've tagged along for endless and repetitive ups and downs. As my first year away from home has flown by, I have just a few things to say:

First, I miss you when I leave more than you know.

Yes, I talk about how ready I am to leave. Believe me when I say that it still will not be easy to say goodbye. In the midst of all the excitement of summer and going back to school, I have ignored the thoughts of not seeing you every day, car dancing or just eating a home cooked meal with you.

Secondly, I want you to know how much I appreciate you.

Mom, you have done more than I could ever imagine a single person could do for someone else. From watching and helping me grow as a person, to drive me around as a child, or even simply allowing me to chase my dreams of studying abroad... you have literally done it all while somehow balancing your life.

Thank you for loving me and encoring me to be the best version of myself. I am grateful for all the sacrifices you've made and the future ones as well, keeping my best interest in mind. I feel incredibly blessed that you are my backbone supporting me throughout my life journey.

Thirdly, I want to apologize.

I know there have been times when I have driven you up the wall and around the corner. Having a girl is not easy, but you've made it look easy. Thank you for having the patience with me to deal with the positive, negative and everything in between those moments. I am so grateful that you are there for me on the days that are the most stressful. Truth is, I will never stop needing these things... sorry!

Lastly, you have been and always will be my best friend.

You are the one person in my life that has always been a constant reminder of what is best for me. You are the one I turn to when I need advice, even if I do not take it. You know how to make me laugh when all I want to do is cry. I cannot wait to make you proud as I continue to grow and flourish throughout the next few years. I hope you know that it is all because of you. Your constant love, support, mom-daughter days, advice, and hugs are what keep me going. You have made me the person I am today (I hope you like me! LOL ) As a person who is proud to be your daughter and a person who is ready to embark on this journey, I thank you for being everything that I have ever needed and more!

Love always,

Your daughter

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
