There's nothing more puzzling in today's society than trying to understand the social constructs of the dating culture. Women and men all over the world are seeking individual needs and desires via various outlets. Heads up, the images are not personally mine. They are results of Google searches that assist in my story.
Dating culture today is as tangled as it ever was prior to the current digital era. In recent years, the rise of dating apps such as Tinder, Bumble, Grindr, Plenty of Fish, Clover, 3nder, etc. are breaking barriers. Like everything else, people can now sift through a collection of profiles and select a suitable companion via the action of swiping left or right on their phone. There are positives and negatives to this form of communication.
Analyzing one's internal needs will determine what their agenda is. For example, someone who doesn't want commitment will use these dating apps to seek a casual hook-up. Are they wrong for this? There is somebody using these apps who want to broaden their pool of acquaintances and find something that could lead to a serious relationship. After all, not everyone on these apps are looking for sex, right? It ultimately depends on the individual and more importantly, their honesty. Not just with another person but with themselves.
Experts can conduct studies and app developers will continue to create the next app that aids in bringing people together or creates more distance (depending on how you look at it) but it's up to the users to bring the honesty. There's nothing wrong with being single or in a relationship. Just know yourself and put the effort into whatever it is you seek. Use the apps or don't. Dating can be scary and exhausting at times to some. It's actually simple, it's just people are so complicated that it gets murky. In the end, relationships and how we connect with others is still a beautiful thing. Our motives will determine our results.
