What happened to casual dating? When the guy would cordially ask the girl to a proper dinner and walk around the car to open the door for her. It seems like dating has evolved into such an online aspect today. We have so many dating sites now it is hard to keep up with them all. Tinder, OK cupid, Match are all sites that millions of people use daily. These types of sites have caused our generation to lose touch with how it is to actually have verbal conversations. Men and women are both guilty of using these sites for finding hookups instead of meaningful relationships. This has caused many issues with trust. It is easy to hide the fact that you use these sites by turning off the notifications. You can take over a new identity in a way. People can say and do whatever online and this way of being hidden is how our dating life goes today. Why is there a need to be hidden? Why can't we make relationships in person?
Let's take it back to the roaring 20's when independent dating became very popular. Many people were leaving their small towns to move to the city because that's where the mingling was happening. During this era, people did not have the privilege of using online sources due to the fact that internet was not available then. People had to actually do something that is not as commonly seen today called "meeting in person." Movies became a great hit for the dating world. Now, it is more common to hear "you wanna Netflix and chill?" This is the way that younger people approach hanging out with someone they may have interest in. As you can see, this is a very different way of dating compared to how it was in the 20's. The movies, the jazz and nightclubs lit up the dating world for the entertainment style. This lasted for many years until a new era of the way we go about dating came along.
We have come to a time where men and women at young ages are dating or just going out as single for longer periods of time. People are graduating from college single due to the fact that the majority of them did not want the commitment of a relationship holding them down. It's as if dating has become a chore and it's too big for people to deal with on top of their daily lives. The word "dating" is also thrown around so often. We hear it now and don't always associate it with it being a big deal. It's a process that comes and goes, but it is also something that everybody in some way thinks about.
Lets lose the late night Netflix hangout that some may refer to as dating and make an effort to actually approach someone in person during the day. It's the little things that make dating special.
