DATING 101: Buddy the Elf Style

Buddy the Elf spreads Christmas cheer by singing loud for all to hear. His story is a classic told in many homes during the Christmas season. He teaches us so many lessons throughout his journey, like how important it is to be yourself. During his time in New York City, Buddy masters the art of dating, something people devote their entire lives to doing. But if all you want for Christmas is a boyfriend/girlfriend, Buddy can help you win over that special someone.

"It's nice to meet another human that shares my affinity for elf culture."

Sometimes, you meet a person, and something just clicks. You like this person for a reason; you share common interests. Don't dance around the facts and hide the truth. You have to break the ice somehow, so just tell them that you like them because they share your affinity for elf culture.

If you're feeling bold, maybe even compliment their beautiful singing voice.

"I think you're really beautiful, and I feel really warm when I'm around you. And, my tongue swells up."

Buddy doesn't give up. His persistence is something to be admired. He basks in awkward moments and is never afraid to tell the world exactly how he feels. Butterflies are normal and expected, but Buddy gives a more accurate explanation as to what the sensation feels like. Don't worry if your tongue swells, that's normal. There's no reason to worry or be embarrassed; it just means you like this person. Don't let it stop you.

"So...do you want to eat food?"

Nobody knows how to actually ask someone on a first date properly. We spend so much time asking our friends for advice; Buddy just goes for it. You just gotta be blunt and upfront about it. If you want to get food, ask them to go get food with you. If you're lucky, you'll have a date.

"I thought maybe we could make gingerbread houses, and eat cookie dough, and go ice skating, and maybe even hold hands."

Buddy shows us that having a plan of old-fashioned fun makes for the best date. He reminds us that no matter what you end up doing as long as it's with someone that makes your tongue swell, it'll be a date worth remembering.

"Oh, I forgot to give you a hug."

If the date went well, feel free to make it better by giving that tongue sweller a hug. Hugs make people feel wanted. If you would like to see this person again, give them a nice Buddy-approved hug. Buddy knows that honesty is key, and everything can be made better with warmth and affection.

"I love you. I love you! I LOOOOVE YOUUUU!!!!"

Okay, so hopefully that first date with the tongue sweller wasn't a one time thing. Maybe that opened the door for more dates full of gingerbread house making, cookie dough eating, and hand holding. Maybe those dates made you realize that you more than like this person. If you feel it, you should say it...or scream it like Buddy does. Love is a magical thing, and you need to scream it out loud to that person. If anything, it will only make the moment more magical. So, just do it.

Just listen to Buddy, and you'll be spending this Christmas with that special someone.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
