Why You Should Date the Southern Mess

Life with her makes perfect sense because she's your best friend.

1. She can hang with the boys.

There's nothing like having your girl around -- I totally get that, especially when you're crazy about her. However, having her around the guys at times can be a little discomforting to your "crew. " She's the kind that your friends don't mind having around because when she opens her mouth, she doesn't sound like another female. Not everything is "yucky," and you can catch her saying, "Hey boys watch this."

2. She's the best fishing partner.

Ain't nothing better than sitting on a river with a cold one in one hand and seeing your girl with a zebco in hers. She ain't around to bait her own hook. Heaven forbid you take the fish off the hook for her because you can bet she can do that herself.

3. She's always down for whatever.

She's the wild ride. She's sliding on in, shotgun ready to see where the road takes her. She's always ready to get into whatever you are, and she wouldn't trade a night of riding and singing along to every country song for a night downtown with her girlfriends.

4. She's your right-hand man.

She's the kind that you can find elbow deep in an ole' box Chevy discussing how you need a 7/16ths wrench instead of a 3/8ths. She's there cheering on the SEC with you every Saturday in the South!

5. With her there is less drama

She isn't worried about what this person and that person are doing on social media. Partly because she is more worried about what fish is nibbling at the end of her hook. At the end of the day, she's only worried about what makes her happy and what makes you happy. Life just seems to be simpler with a Southern girl at your side.

6. Your momma really loves her

She has that Southern Hospitality that hardly exists nowadays. She's respectful in all the right ways. She cares about you and what truly happens to your future or the future that possibly includes her in it. She's the kind you bring home to mamma, and next thing you know, she and your mamma are in the kitchen cooking fried chicken with a pan of fresh corn bread in the oven. She respects the woman who raised you and isn't afraid to love her just the same.

7. She knows how to treat you

She can bring out your wilder side, but she also knows how to love you. She knows that you need all the love and support you can get after a long day. She is always there to vent to, and you know she will never be biased about anything. She will always give her honest opinion even when you are being a dumb ole' donkey. She can sass you around long enough to make you see she is only wanting the best for you.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
