Why You Should Date A Car Guy
Devin Fruzyna

For me, finding someone that you genuinely have something in common with is very important and very rare. For the past two years I have had the pleasure of dating a car guy. I haven't had many serious relationships, but I can split this one apart from the others in many ways. The main one is him being a car guy. To find something you love is awesome, but to find someone you love that loves what you love is 100 times better. So here are a few reasons why you should date a car guy.

1. They are the best help

They know you better than anyone else, so they can see you lie through your teeth when you're struggling. And when you are struggling, they don't just take over; they want you to learn how to do it or to help you complete it. From cosmetics to performance, they are always willing to help and are willing to do what they can to make your dreams come to life.

2. Odd dates

Some of the odd dates that I have come across include long drives to car shows, going to a dealership to look at cars, looking at cars on the side of the road and lots and lots of car meets. The best thing is going to car meets. Seeing varieties of cars and just talking about them provides a big connection that you cannot find with anyone else. You know each other's interests and never stop talking about them

3. They're knowledgeable

Now, I am not a life long car girl, but I have been for the past decade or so. Ever since I was really able to appreciate cars, I was hooked. But a car guy seems to know everything! From the kind of drive shaft you do and don't want in a Jeep to how much horse power and torque any car on the lot has, they seem to have an entire brain just for cars and it is super helpful and interesting!

4. They're committed

For anyone that works on their car, there is no such thing as a quick or simple task. Usually you hit a few road bumps or it takes longer than expected, especially if you aren't a professional. With tasks taking long, they're committed to finishing the project in the time frame that it needs to happen in. When preparing for a show or just to add something, stopping in the middle isn't an option. This goes for other things in the relationship, too. They are resilient and dedicated to you and your dreams, even if it doesn't include cars.

5. They're passionate

From talking about cars to working on them, they are passionate with every word they say. Also, they're passionate towards you. Passionate in what you have to say and what you do. From walking, to talking to working on cars, they're sucked in and passionate about what you're doing and what you seek to achieve.

From my years of dating, I have never come across a man like my car guy. Honestly, he's the best for more than the above reasons. He has been supportive through all of my decisions, picked me up even if I was covered in grime, stood by my side as I waited to get judged, everything, he was there. It is hard to find someone you share a common ground with, let alone someone who is also passionate about what you are passionate about, too. I am proud to date a car guy and can't wait to marry mine.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
