Everyone is obsessed with the show "Orange is the New Black": with the remarkable writing, captivating characters, and the twists and turns of the drama-filled episodes… you can’t go wrong with watching it! One of the most influential characters within the show is Daya, with captivating the watchers with her love interest in the charming Officer Bennett, her feisty attitude with her mother, and her soft spot for her baby, what’s not to like? But now, with all of us now waiting anxiously for the next season to come on to Netflix after the cliff hanger they show left us with, we now can be blow away by the actress yet again with her life outside of the screen. Everyone knows that the Daya actress has a beautiful curvy body and is not afraid to show it off when it comes to award shows and the Red Carpet. However, being an actress and attending award shows isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be when you are a plus-sized individual.

Dascha Polanco was invited to the Red Carpet mentioned in an interview with "Vogue Magazine" that she has attempted to reach out to a few designers and high-end brand names but was turned down by every one of them because they don’t carry her size and refuse to dress her. She continued to tell the interviewer that she loves to shop in high name brand stores and mix up her own style, however when it came down to asking those brands if they could dress her for the next red carpet event, the brands responded with not having her size in their clothing and that maybe in the future they will try with plus size clothing. This kind of response was not something that Polanco was going to put up with. She declares that she is done with their close-mindedness and will no longer be wasting her money in establishments that don’t accept women in all shapes and sizes.

The dominant sizes in the fashion industry are mainly zero, two, and four. When it comes to most fashion industries, they consider size eight to be plus size. Size eight! Seeing the average clothing size for women in the U.S is sizes 12 to 14, the fashion industry is clearly deranged with their idealistic on the female body. In the U.S. the average female model that we see walking the runway is averaged at 0-00.

They need to promote bodies of all sizes when it comes to modeling, to give young girls and women the confidence booster they need to see that they are beautiful no matter what size they are. This is why women like Dascha Polanco are so important this day in age, women need more voices when it comes to fighting against what is considered the “ideal woman” and “beautiful.” The high-end brands that tossed Polanco to the side when she inquired about using their brands at the red carpet, should have jumped at the opportunity to push past their limits and explore new territory that is: plus sizes.

Because of Dascha Polanco rejection from these clothing lines, she is now motivated to generate her own lines of fashion that can encourage women to love their bodies. You go girl!

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.
