While some people prefer to watch happy holiday specials during their winter break, I prefer to entertain myself by binging the latest serial killer documentary or dark comedy. If you're anything like me and looking for a new show to watch, look no further. Here is a comprehensive list of some of the best dark tv shows ranging from 2011-2018.

1. Sharp Objects (2018)

Sharp Objects is about a journalist, Camille (Amy Adams) who goes back to her hometown to report on the killings of local girls. Throughout the show, you get a peek at just how damaged Camille, her mother Adora (Patricia Clarkson), and little sister Amma (Eliza Scanlen) are. With an insane twist ending, this show is bound to be your next new favorite. You can stream the full mini-series on HBO.

2. The Killing (2011)

The Killing follows detectives Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) as they investigate a series of murders in the Seattle area. Each season features a new case and will have your mind racing as you try to figure out the mystery along with them. The character development is very well put together, and by the end of the series, Linden and Holder will hold a special place in your heart. You can stream The Killing on Amazon Prime or Youtube.

3. Mindhunter (2017)

Mindhunter takes place in the 1970s and follows the inception of behavioral profiling. FBI agent Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) travel around the country interviewing famous serial killers like Ed Kemper (Cameron Britton), Jerry Brudos (Happy Anderson), and others while also helping local law enforcement solve puzzling murders. The music is fantastic, the drama keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the casting of the serial killers is uncanny. Also, the same guy who plays Holden also is the voice of Kristoff from Frozen (2013). You can stream this series on Netflix.

4. The End of the F***ing World (2017)

The End of the F***ing World is a British dark comedy that follows two teenagers: James (Alex Lawther), who considers himself a psychopath, and Alyssa (Jessica Barden), the angsty new girl in school. Alyssa thinks Alex would be a perfect boyfriend while Alex thinks Alyssa would be his perfect first victim. This show is a quick binge with episodes only 30 minutes long and is bound to suck you into their winding adventure. You can stream this show on Netflix.

5. The Fall (2013)

The Fall is a British series that puts you into the points of view of both the detective and the killer. Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) has been called to solve the murders of several women. Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) who is the mastermind behind the crimes tries to balance his family life and his sinister hobby. With three seasons, The Fall is the perfect show to immerse yourself in during winter break.

6. The Haunting of Hill House (2018)

The Haunting of Hill House is the show that everyone seemed to be talking about in October. This show is about a fragmented family who is suddenly drawn together again after a tragic event. This show lives up to the hype. You can stream it on Netflix.

7. Ozark (2017)

Ozark is a story about how a man and his family get sucked into having to launder $500 million to appease a Mexican drug cartel. This show doesn't wait to jump into the action and intensity, and you'll sometimes find yourself holding your breath throughout the episodes. You can stream Ozark on Netflix.

8. Evil Genius (2018)

Evil Genius is a thrilling documentary of a heist gone wrong. The four-part series delves into the mystery surrounding the Pennsylvania robbery that ended up in an explosive death of a pizza delivery man. With every episode, the documentary pulls you deeper and deeper in the who-dun-it conspiracy. You can stream this documentary on Netflix.

9. The Keepers (2017)

The Keepers is another documentary about the slaying of a nun in Baltimore, Maryland in 1969. This seven-part series follows two former students of Sister Cathy Cesnik on a mission to solve the cold case of her murder. 10. Bates Motel (2013)

Bates Motel is a series based on Alfred Hitchcock's infamous movie Psycho (1960). The series shows the evolution of Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his odd, Freudian relationship with his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga).
