Every Child Should Be Loved

Daniel was only in my life for a second in time, yet placed there on a purpose.

"Daniel was only in my life for a second in time, yet placed there on a purpose."

I wrote in my journal on the plane on our way back to Columbus, OH after our trip to Catacamas, Olancho in Honduras.

During our trip we got the opportunity to travel into the village of Catacamas and help out at a school.

When we pulled up to what looked like a tattered garage, I was a little confused.

A tiny building with children ages 6-16, all in the same room, learning the same things.

When our group got there, the teacher was no where to be found, so our missionary Laura began singing a silly Christian song with them, that was in the whole team's head for the rest of the week.

During this time a little boy caught my eye. He was in the front, in a green Portland soccer jersey. He was missing teeth and his face looked droopy and sad. I immediately wanted to talk to him and and love on him.

When the kids got to go outside, I went up to him and said "Hola! Tù nombre?"

"Daniel!" he said with a big smile on his face.

After that he was my friend while we were there, he hugged me and loved to take pictures.

I told him when we left that I would be back the next day.

The next day as soon as I got off the bus, there he was waiting for me. He had his lunch all over his face, so I offered him my shirt and he wiped his face and smiled.

While they were playing outside, it seemed to me that the other little boys were picking on Daniel and pushing him around.

This is when it occurred to me.

I was drawn to this little guy for a reason, he needed love.

God showed me that I only got to love on Daniel for a moment, in a different time zone, in a different country. It is all the same to God.

He wanted me there at that specific time, and he wanted Daniel there too. And I would do it all again just for him! Just to see his little face again.

God planted us there before we were even born, for a specific purpose, that seems unexpected to us, but God knew all along.

We are his children! Of course he knows us, He created us.

And in His creating, He liberated us from fear, and in turn gave us His Spirit of love. His blood flows through our veins.

For it was you who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother's womb.

I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made.

Psalm 139:13-14

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
