Autumn Equinox has come, and it is bringing us an interesting lunar calendar for the month of October. Each of the eight phases of the moon brings a unique set of opportunities and challenges for all who observe them. Lucky for you, this lunar phase playlist will provide some resonating tunes to connect you to the lessons of the moon and the magic of October. Each lunar phase lasts 5 days, so you can totally indulge in keeping your new favorite on repeat.

1. Phase One: New Moon

Interestingly enough, October begins and ends on a new moon this year. The new moon phase is a time for fresh beginnings. If you have been planning on remodeling your dorm room or breaking a negative habit, now is the time to do it.

Big Decisions by My Morning Jacket

This is the perfect new moon jam. Jim James ever so smoothly tells you to let fear go and make the big decision you've been worrying out loud about all week. Believe that you can clear the air and you will.

2. Phase Two: Crescent Moon

Now that your slate is anew, it's time to ask yourself: What's next? The crescent moon is slowly inching towards full illumination, and it's time for you to state your hopes and dreams for the next few weeks. Baby steps.

Are You What You to Be? by Foster the People

This jaunty tune will give you enough pep to ask yourself these questions and confidently answer them. Are you working towards who you want to be?

3. Phase Three: First Quarter Moon

Uh oh. Remember those challenges I mentioned earlier? Well, FQM is here to hand them to you. Coming up with your hopes is easy, finding a way to achieve isn't always as smooth.

Believe by My Morning Jacket

Again with this band? Trust me, they've got the relevant lyrics thing down pat. "Believe, nobody knows for sure" This defining lyric reminds us to stay focused on our goal, but not to take life too seriously!

4. Phase Four: Gibbous Moon

As the moon waxes fuller and fuller, so do our intentions. Once you have identified the challenges facing your dreams, it's time to address them. You may have to alter your previous plan to stay on the right path to fulfillment.

Changes by David Bowie

The original Martian knows all about the mystical ways of mama moon. In this song, he explores changes he is going through to become his ultimate person. Without challenge and change, there is no growth.

5. Phase Five: FULL MOON

The full October moon falls on the 16th. Don't get freaked out, but this is known as the snake moon. Snakes are the masters of transformation. By this time, your intentions should be surfacing as realities. The importance of the snake moon is that the changes brought about will reveal a new layer of yourself. Soak it in! Snakes wade in water before shedding to help ease the process. Here are some tunes for your full moon tub time.

10,000 Emerald Pools by BORNS

Honestly, I'm obsessed with this song. It's soothing enough for a bath and creates the fluid feeling necessary for transitions.

Ride On/Right On by Phosphorescent

Celebrate new beginnings with this kicker! It gets you ready to ride right on into the next phase of your life.

6. Phase Six: Disseminating Moon

Ahh, the afterglow of success. Now is the time to reflect on the process you just underwent. Accept the intention as complete, and thank the moon for her glowing guidance.

It All Feels Right by Washed Out

This song puts you at such ease you can just sit back and soak it all in. Hum along and smile at the moon!

I'm Good by The Mowglis

The title says it all.

7. Phase Seven: Last Quarter Moon

This phase reminds us to let go of all the hurt we may have experienced in the process. It is no longer in your hands, but you have certainly grown from it.

Seasons by Future Islands

This band took me a long time to get used to, but this song did it. A haunting melody, we are reminded that people change and sometimes it is best just to let the memories fade.

Ride by Lana Del Rey

The queen of summertime sadness knows best about leaving when there's nothing left.

8. Phase Eight: Balsamic Moon

No, not for salads. However, now would be a good time to eat salads and take care of yourself. This last sliver of the moon leaves us just enough light to find peace.

Je Suis Le Vent by Working for a Nuclear Free City

Instrumentals are perfect for finding your inner stillness.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
