If you're a dancer, you probably have struggles that other people can't relate to. Whether it's being abnormally flexible, or dropping whatever it is you're doing to start choreographing a song that's on, you're sure to relate to these strange but true dance struggles.
1. Not stretching for two days and finding that everything is stiff when you dance again.
If you're a dancer, then you know that stretching is not something you do once in a while, it's something that must be done all the time. Even if you're sitting down in class or laying in your bed, you'll find yourself stretching out your legs or pointing your toes.
It's a habit, and it's been inscribed in our brains. So when you haven't stretched in a while and try dancing again, your body just won't work with you. That kick you were amazing at last practice? You struggle with it this practice. And that's okay because you promise this time you're going to stretch. 100%. For sure.
2. Whenever you hear a song, you start making up choreography for it.
As a dancer, you're trained to hear counts and rhythm in a song so whenever you do hear one, you hear it a little differently. Choreography for it just comes in your brain and you're automatically dancing in your head with a beautiful costume. It's like a fairytale really.
3. You practice your dance without even realizing it.
When you walk around, chances are you do dance steps without even realizing it. There's a term dancers use called "muscle memory," which means knowing the dance so well you can do it in your sleep. It also brings doing the dance without even knowing you're doing the dance. You live in your own little dance bubble, and you start dancing so randomly people think you're crazy. But you're not. You just love to dance.
