Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott is a sensation that Dallas Cowboys fans have not felt in a long while. The 4th round draft pick was coincidentally named the starter after another serious Tony Romo injury and no one expected much out of him. The organization wanted to just get by with Prescott. A couple of wins would suffice, then immediately insert Romo as soon as possible. That narrative has changed rapidly and here is why.
Can you say super bowl caliber? Yes, that is how Dak Prescott's play has been. As a first-year NFL player, he is surging the cowboys to a 7-1 start, that would be their best start since 2007. Some would make excuses about him having one of the best offensive lines and running backs in the NFL. What about longtime Cowboy quarterback Troy Aikman? He won Dallas 3 Superbowls during his career, also being behind a great offensive line and oh yea, Emmit Smith. Prescott just broke Aikman's rookie year statistics of touchdowns (9) halfway through the season throwing for his 10th touchdown.
After the trouncing over the Cleveland Browns 35-10, Prescott continues to look better and better every game he plays. Completing 78% of his passes along with passing for 247 yards and 3 touchdowns what is there to argue about? He has passed for at least 225 yards in 8 straight games breaking once again, a rookie record. His comfortability with the offense as a rookie should genuinely send out fear to his opponents for years to come.
Now where does this lead the Cowboys when a healthy Tony Romo comes back? To be blunt, it shouldn't change a thing if they know what is good for them. Time for the owner Jerry Jones, to start looking towards the future, and keep the fluidity and the winning ongoing. Romo is getting older (36), he can not stay healthy long enough to have consistency, personally, I think he doesn't know what true winning tastes like either. Not to disrespect the former multiple time Pro-Bowler but the organization needs a change if they truly want to live up to their expectations.
Ever heard of that phrase, "if it ain't broke don't fix it"? That could be strongly applied to their current situation. I doubt Mr. Jones will ever come across this but, JERRY keep in Prescott. He's been everything but a rookie through his present campaign and looks to continue his recent success. With their recent run-in with success and their confidence rising, this is easily a top 5 NFL team that right now looks slightly unstoppable.
Bold Statement: Dak Prescott leads his Dallas Cowboys team to a Superbowl appearance if he and Ezekiel Elliot remain healthy.
