Some Daily Reminders

With stressful workdays to hectic schedules that leave you gasping for breath, it's simply too easy to forget about the true meanings behind our very existence and what's truly important. As life bears its sharp highs to the torturous lows, keep this short list in the back burner of your mind.

1. Not One Drop of Your Self-Worth Depends Upon Others.

Your outlook and judgment of yourself comes from deep within, and no on else's opinion or perspective of you should change that. YOU and only yourself determine your stance on the world and self esteem, and no one else's opinion maters of you matters, as long as you accept who you are.

2. Life is short, too short.

The hour hand on the clock never stops or waits for anyone, so if you've always been waiting to travel across the world to Europe, now is the time! Book the trip, start investing the money, and do NOT wait for the next year, because next year may turn into next decade. And soon enough, the trip never happens, and suddenly, you get older and older. Now is the time, so hold on to life while you have it.

3. Take Risks

Think about future you sitting silently in the nursing home, while could be hard to even fathom. Fifty years from now, do you think future you will be saying, "I'm so glad I stayed in that one night and got a good nights sleep"? No, of course not! If your actions don't go as planned, well hey, that's just another lesson you can teach those grandkids, but just don't forget to live a little.

4. Your the Captain of Your Own Ship

The life your living established itself because of YOUR actions, and what you've created. If you don't like your job, hey who filled out that application and sat through the interview? As your own captain, it's never too late to alter the sails of your ship and change the course.

5. Embrace Change

The inevitable change is going to happen throughout your life, but the best way to deal with change? Embrace it! An open mind leads to an open heart, and if your can't get out of the situation, you may as well get into it!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
