Start drinking that water!

Daily Habits We Need to Adopt

Some of these may seem obvious and already a part of your daily routine, but some of us need a reality check with our daily schedules.

Drink more water – The health benefits alone should give you enough reasoning to work on this. I struggle with this habit since Coke Zero and coffee fuel my day. However, I have been actively working on it. I don’t face as severe of a caffeine crash during the day!

Reading the news – Ignorance can be bliss, but there comes a point in life where you need to know what is going on in the world. Try to spend 10-20 minutes a day reviewing the news. Personally I avoid looking too much at the local headlines and stick to the national and global tidbits. I use my USA Today app or look on news stations’ Facebook pages or Twitter feeds for highlighted articles.

Tidying up – I clean my room weekly. I let it get insane during the week and spend a chunk of my weekend cleaning it all up. It’s honestly ridiculous and embarrassing. I am working on adopting a daily habit of spending 15 or so minutes to tidying up. If I was really smart I would be more active in cleaning while I make the mess. For example, if I don’t end up liking a top I try on, I should just hang it back up instead of tossing it on my closet floor. Please tell me I am not the only one who does this frequently.

Showing kindness – Not only does it help with your attitude, it helps others. Try holding open a door or treating a coworker to coffee. Or just simply smiling at someone. Break out of the busyness and show some love to those around you.

Setting a sleep schedule – Let’s break out of the habit of “going to bed” and opening our Instagram app for another two hours. Put the phone up and get to sleep. If you have trouble with falling asleep, read that book you wanted to check out or flip through a magazine instead of scanning through Pinterest.

Which one of these do you want to work on?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
