Dad vs. Leah, How Similar Are We?

Many children have traits from their parents, and I definitely inherited traits from my dad.

Dad vs. Leah, How Similar Are We?

People always talk about how a child looks like or reminds them of one of their parents.

"Oh, you have your mother's eyes!"

"When you were a baby you looked exactly like your dad!"

"Your smile looks just like your mom's!"

Lucky for me, one thing I got is my dad's sense of humor. Which for him is great because that means I laugh at all his "funny" jokes. When both my sisters were in college and it was just my parents and I that lived in the house, my mom felt left out sometimes when it came to jokes. My dad would say something that I thought was just hilarious, but my mom thought otherwise.

Another thing I got from my dad is my introversion. We both would much rather spend time at home with our families than at a big event with a lot of people. This was a nice quality to inherit from him because if we were ever at a big event whether it be with extended family we didn't see often or some sort of huge celebration like someone's wedding, I knew I always had someone to talk to. I could just find my dad and sit and talk to him instead of being overwhelmed by visiting with all the people around us.

Also, we are similar because we both enjoy similar shows. There was a time that he started watching a show before me and I started watching it because he enjoyed it. One of my favorite things to do with my dad is watching a show together. We used to watch shows together when they would be on every week. The first show I remember watching is "Knight Rider" starring Justin Bruening. There were only 18 episodes during the span of 2008-2009 but it was a great show. Since then, we have watched a few different shows together and I definitely miss that since I've been in college.

Even though I am like my dad, there are some ways that we are not similar too. The first thing I think of is the fact that I will talk during a show or movie a lot more than I probably should. I made my dad watch a Star Wars movie with him and I had a question pretty much every 5 minutes, which he didn't appreciate very much. I do this quite often even though I know he hates it.

When people are compared to their parents, they don't always like it, but I don't mind it at all. I think my dad is pretty cool (dad, if you're reading this, don't let it get to your head some of your jokes are still very lame). I am glad that I inherited traits from my dad because my dad is one of my favorite people in the whole entire world and I would definitely never trade him for everything. You're getting pretty old now (if you know my dad, make sure to wish him a happy birthday on March 25th!) but you're still pretty cool. I love you dad!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
