No one says it better than Frenchy, there may be billions of men in this world, but no one is going to love you more than your dad. Personally, I can say my dad is my best friend.
1. He knows I'm not a morning person
Eighteen years later and no one but my dad understands don't speak to me if it's before nine and I haven't had coffee yet. He knows if I'm in the kitchen sitting at the counter with the lights off in silence, to not break it. He knows not to touch me, look at me for more than two seconds, or speak to me. Mom, I love you but every time you walk in the kitchen and turn the lights then start yelling, you make me want kill someone.
2. When I'm upset he knows what to do
If it's because I didn't do well in school, got dumped, or even just had a bad day, my dad knows just the thing that makes me feel better. Dunkin Donuts. He gives me my space for a while then will take me to eat because he knows how happy food makes me.
3. My dad would drop anything for me
Going to school two hours and thirty minutes away from home doesn't seem like a lot, but when it's two in the morning and I need something, I know my best bet is calling Dad. My dad is really a stand up guy and I know would sacrifice a lot to come rushing to my side need be.
4. He doesn't act his age
My dad may be almost sixty, but you truly would never know it. He doesn't hesitate to photobomb a picture or jump in a selfie. He's up to date with all the latest country music and knows every word to "Drunk on a Plane" by Dierks Bentley. As far as his physical condition, it's actually incomparable to other men his age. That man still has no issue carrying things ten times his own body weight or scaling the side of the house on a twenty foot ladder to clean the windows. The freaking outside of the windows. I would never mess with him either. This is because I know he can still out run anyone that tests him. He's so quick in every aspect. In my house if you talk back, there is about a 0.2 second reaction time you're given before you get hair pulled or smacked upside the head. My sister and I usually deserve it as much as we don't want to admit it though.
5. He makes the best food
The breakfast and dinners Wayne makes are like no other. Being away from those home-cooked meals and chocolate-chip, Mickey Mouse pancakes have been an extremely difficult adjustment. Wayne DeBello has never cooked a bad meal (besides that one time you used bad milk to make mashed potatoes and we all got sick).
6. He's very practical
My dad calls it as it is. A boy breaks your heart? You'll be fine he's just a boy and it's his loss. You get a bad grade? Do better on the next one or he'll kick you into next year. Fighting with mom? Just let her win she'll get over it. Fighting with your sister? Be the mature one and walk away. Arguing with friends? Find better ones. He puts up with little to no drama and that's been an acquired skill that is completely admirable considering he lives in a house with my two sister, mother, and grandma.
7. He's protective
In reality what dad isn't protective over his daughters? It takes my dad a couple of months to warm up to the boys my sister and I bring around. He's not afraid to embarrass us in front of these boys either. (He usually ends up predicting which boys are going to end up as useless too).
8. He listens
I'm pretty sure my dad is the only man that can survive a long car ride. Unlike the majority of people in my life, he lets me talk his ear off.
9. He's my biggest fan
On the field hockey field or in the classroom, my dad is my number one supporter. No boyfriend or friend would sit in the freezing rain to watch the most boring sport on earth be played. I love field hockey but it is a tough sport to watch, so hats off to you Dad for however many years you've had to sit through that. He's also the only one louder than half the girls on the field. As far as school goes, he always wants nothing but the best for me and that shows by the amount of times he STILL checks my grades.
10. He always stays humble and kind
No one song describes my dad better than Tim McGraw's, "Humble and Kind". There is not one man more humble and kind than my dad. Thanks for being the best dad.
