Dad, Did I Ever Tell You?

Dear Dad,

Did I ever tell you that I secretly loved your corny jokes? Because I do. I love how you make them no matter what we say or how we react. I love your jokes, because that is what makes you you. I would not trade your dad jokes or your awful puns for anything. You always say them with a purpose, whether that be to embarrass us or an attempt to make us laugh a little while we are down, you still make them.

Did I ever tell you that I love your heart for God? Because I do. I love that you always make sure we know that God loves us and that His way is the right way. You have been a part of the Children's Ministry for as long as I can remember. Starting kids out young with their roots in the Bible has always been an important part of your life, and I love that about you.

Did I ever tell you how much I appreciate you? Because I do. I love how much you have done for me. You have always cared for me no matter what. I appreciate how much you work so that you can provide for the family, even if that means less time at home. Everything you do for this family is amazing. Now that I am off at college, I appreciate you and the things you have done for me so much more.

Did I ever tell you how much you mean to me? Because you do. I love you, Dad. You mean so much to me because you always treated us kids right. You taught my brother how to treat girls and you taught us girls how we should be treated. All of these valuable lessons we have learned from you have made you mean so much more to me.

Did I ever tell you how much I love you? Because I do. I love you so unbelievably much. You wanna know why? I love you so much because you always made me know that I was loved. No matter what time of day it was or where ever we were, you made sure all four of your children knew they were loved.

Honestly, Dad, every time that I get to come home from college, you are one of the people that I am the most excited to see. The warm hugs that you give are always the best. The eagerness to always go out and do something makes me happy. You love taking us out for dessert, its like your little "welcome home" treat. I really do love all of your corny jokes and how they always end up with us kids shaking our heads. I love your heart for God and how you are never afraid to share your faith. I appreciate you and everything you have done for this family. You mean so much to me, that it was actually really hard to put into words. And most of all, I love you so much more than words can express. You are the best Dad that I could have ever asked for.

Love,

Your Little Girl

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
