DACA: A Real Story

The true meaning of DACA lies unknown as we fail to relate to people whose future depends entirely on it.

Imagine the following: You have been given a chance. Finally. I mean, you are getting documents (temporary, but it is better than nothing), now you have a job, can start building credit, and even study! That is just great, isn't it? Think about the possibilities; all your dreams will come true now that you have papers. You are also hopeful, you think this is just the beginning and that very soon you are going to legalize yourself once and for all, and live forever in this country that has been your home for a long time.

Now imagine when one day somebody decides to take that away from you. How would you feel? All that handwork that you have put into your life, that new car you just bought with credit, your job, your career... is all gone.

How is that good for a country? How can a government give hope to so many kids that just want to be somebody in life, only to take it away later? I cannot make sense of it, and I am honestly hoping that you won't either.

You, who are reading this right now, probably have a friend or a person that is close to you that is under DACA, an immigration policy that allows undocumented children that came to the country before their 16th birthday and June 2007 to receive a renewable two-year work permit and exemption from deportation. Even if you just don't know anybody, you wouldn't want to be in their shoes or you would feel for them.

It is not easy to live with the doubt. It is not easy to build a future and have it taken away without excuse.

I know many people that are under DACA, people that are very close to my heart. I feel for them, and they are one of the reasons why I am talking about this topic. The other reason is that I put myself in their place, in the situations of many others.

And I want you to do the same, no matter who you are or where you come from, whether you are "legal" or not, or what political party you support.

This is a matter of logic. This is a matter of us being humane and understanding each other. It is time to show support only because if it were you, I am sure you would like somebody to.

It is time to give them the solid opportunity. It is time to let them build their future with no worries. They deserve it just like anybody else. The United States is also their home, and they are just fighting to make it a better place. They are students, people with hopes and faith, people that someday want to build a family or establish businesses.

THEY ARE DREAMERS FIGHTING FOR A REALITY. This is dedicated to my boyfriend, a dreamer and the kindest and most hardworking of all human beings.

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
