Cyberbullying Is More Prevalent Than You Think And It Needs To End

Social media really does bring out the worst in all of us.

We've all seen ads and PSAs saying "Cyberbullying needs to end!" And it does. But there are some people in this world that say they don't cyberbully when they really do... And to be completely honest, I'm not excluded from that group.

Cyberbullying has evolved from IM chat rooms. It has taken to platforms like Instagram. And it can be on any aspect of this social media platform from the DMs of Instagram to Instagram live.

What many don't realize is that cyberbullying doesn't have to occur on the specific platform. Seeing something on social media then speaking about it in a negative light off the platform evolves from cyberbullying into standard bullying.

Look, I get it. When you see someone on social media doing something stupid, singing along to a song off-key, or just being themselves, it's not our business and it shouldn't be our pleasure to talk negatively about the person. I mean, let's face it. We all lack a bit of grace at some point.

But why am I looped into all this? Because I used to be a part of a negative community that would hop on Instagram live every other night and watch this guy sing karaoke to songs. And then we would laugh. At him. And now he's graduating college. And I probably won't get the chance to apologize to him in person.

This is actually a complex issue because you don't want to hurt the guy's feelings by telling him he's not good at singing/rapping and you don't want to continue picking on him behind his back. So, I'm going to use really the only public forum I have where I can reach a lot of people.

This is a message to all people who bully people online, in person, or behind their backs.

Stop it.

It's not funny. No good comes from it. I've stopped. And I feel so much better for it. Let's all be decent human beings and realize that no one is perfect and we have no right to judge what other people think makes them happy.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
