Why You Should Cut Your Hair Short

Short hair, don't care

We're all attached to our long hair — both literately and figuratively. I love when my hair is long, when it's the perfect length where my ends curl up well enough that I don't have to add any of my own with a curling iron. I also love my hair long because I'm a female, and we as a species, just love our long hair.

But with the changing new year and new semester, I decided to make a change. And within 45 minutes and three short inches, I was back to having shoulder-length, short hair. Short hair is just as fun and having long hair, and to all girls who refuse to get more than a trim cut off their luscious locks, let me try to convince you to snip your ends away.

There are plenty of cute short hairstyles.

Whether you're thinking of having a trendy, shoulder length bob or pull a Miley with an edgy pixie, short hairstyles are just as cute your mermaid mane.

It makes you look (and feel) older.

To all the baby-faced girls out there like me who still get carded for R-rated movies, cutting your hair will give you a more sophisticated look, and age you just the right amount and people will no longer assume you're still in high school.

It's easier to manage.

After the salon, you'll also cut your hair-care treatments in half. Your showers will be shorter, and no more arm workouts with your hour-long hair straightening sessions!

It's healthier than dying your hair.

If you're looking for a hairstyle change but don't want to damage your hair, cutting it off does the exact opposite. Say goodbye to all your split, dead, ends, as your hair will look healthier and stronger than ever.

You can cut your hair for a good cause.

There are many amazing organizations, such as Locks of Love and Pantene Beautiful Lengths, where you can donate your hair to be made into a wig for cancer patients. I donated 10 inches to Pantene Beautiful Lengths last year, and it was an extremely rewarding experience.

It can signify change.

If you're looking for a fresh start, going short is your answer. Cutting off your hair takes the weight off your shoulders, and allows you to let go of the past, look forward to the future, and feel free.

So what are you waiting for? Book your appointment now and kiss your long locks goodbye!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
