For all of my life, I've had naturally curly hair. Those who have curly hair know the inevitable burdens of frizz and flyaways. We know how much we need to spend a copious amount on products, bobby pins, ponytails, etc. We always envied those with pin straight hair because all they needed to do in the morning was brush their hair.
Despite the hardships and negativity curly hair receives, I'm here to tell you it's a blessing to have curly hair.
Speaking as someone with curly hair, I used to be among the many who hate their natural hair. Throughout middle school and high school, I would wake up earlier than dawn to straighten my hair, which took two hours or more. The process became taxing. The day I learned to accept my curly hair was a revelation, and it's one I'll never forget.
There are many positives to having naturally curly hair. One of them is you always have a style you can wear for fancy occasions or something as casual as staying at home. There's no need to pay extra money to go to the salon for styling. When you figure out a routine best for your hair, you can style your curls with ease.
If you're someone on the go, styling is much easier. Often you can scrunch some gel into your hair and go. Alternatively, you can use a diffuser to dry your hair, adding more volume to your curls. Either way, the end result is astonishing: a head of luscious curls.
There are so many products we curlies can use to our advantage, such as DevaCurl. If you prefer not to spend too much money on styling products, there are drugstore options, such as Tresemme, Aussie, etc. Serums are a must, and there are various kinds, from sprays to oils you can use with your fingers.
All in all, natural hair of any kind is beautiful, whether curly or straight.
To my fellow curlies, you don't need straight hair to have beautiful hair. Nourish your curls, take control, and you will soon find having curly hair is a blessing.
