As I sat there, wondering if I could make a mimosa out of Emergen-C and champagne, I reached for my phone to Google it. Before I could actually type in my question I thought to myself, “How did people find these things out before the internet?”
I find that’s a scary question.
“What did people do before the internet?”
What did they do? My guess, is they just tried it. And then I thought, “Has the internet taken away our ability to be curious?”
I’ve written before about the internet because, honestly, it scares me. The whole thing. But I keep asking myself that question: Has the internet taken away our curiosity?
Now we don’t need to visit beautiful places, we can just look at the 360 picture of them. And even if we are in beautiful places, we spend more time taking pictures of those places than actually enjoying them. We’re not even taking those pictures so we can remember them later on, we take them to show our friends how adventurous our lives are.
We also never need to try new things for ourselves. I’m not saying we should all go try Emergen-C mimosas, but what if we stopped Googling all of our questions and just tried things out?
Wonder what a recipe tastes like? Make it.
Wonder what that new clothing store’s prices are like? Go inside.
Wonder if that bar offers happy hour deals? Call them.
Wonder if that new hiking trail is as beautiful as your friend says it is? Hike it.
Stay curious.
