The Liberty Pre-Curfew Rush, As Told By Michael Scott

It's 12:29 and the madness has only just begun

It's happened to the best of us. One minute you're out having a good time with friends enjoying a little, hard-earned relaxation at Cook-Out when, all of sudden, you take a look at your phone and realize that curfew is only minutes away.

Dunder Mifflin manager, Michael Scott, has been in couple tight situations himself, so he is the perfect person to help explain the events LU students must face when they're late for curfew.

1. When you realize you only have a few minutes until 12:30:

Despite your best attempts to show your friends that you don't care about being late for curfew, you can't help but feel a little nervousness as you quickly try to gather your things and move towards your car.

2. When you get lost trying to find your way back to campus:

"Google, take the wheel! Take it from my hands, 'cause I can't find University Boulevard on my own..."

3. When you look down at your phone and see that your RA has texted asking where you are:

They know. They've caught you in the midst of your transgressions and there is no escaping the wrath they are about to unleash.

4. When you quietly wonder what life would have been like if you had just done a late night sign out:

It would have taken about 10 seconds to go up to that little sheet of paper and signed your name, but no....

5. When you finally make it back to campus and realize there's no parking close to your dorm:

You knew it was a fool's hope...but there was hope all the same and that crushing disappointment is almost more than your panicked heart can bear.

6. ...So you squeeze your car absolutely anywhere it will fit:

If you're going to park illegally, you better make sure you park so illegally and so terribly that Beeline isn't able to snag your car the next morning.

7. Then you start the long, exhausting run back to your dorm:

Looks like that Cook-Out shake is about to make an unwelcome, far less appealing reappearance.

8. When you pass another student desperately trying to make it back to their room before curfew:

You don't need to say anything to each other, but in that split second of panicked eye contact you share a moment that will never be forgotten.

9. When you burst into your room seconds before curfew and try to make it look like you've been there the whole time:

"Oh yeah... I've just been chilling on this couch the whole time... I can't believe you didn't see me!"

There are few experiences in this life that give you more of an adrenaline rush than trying to book it back to your dorm on a Saturday night and even fewer more exciting than exploding through your door at 12:29.

That said, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Next time be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to snag your delicious Cook-Out shake, find a place to park and have a nice, enjoyable walk back to your dorm.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
