The Definitive Summer Bucket List
Maysanne Burns

With summer upon us, many of us have finished moving back home and are all having the same problem. What do we do now? While the rest of the family is at work and school there isn’t much to do. I’m here to help cure all your summer time sadness. Make a bucket list. Yes, this may sound like something that little kid would do but this is a list that is a brainstorm of fun things to do when you have nothing to do. Take a day trip to your favorite hiking spot or try a new restaurant you’ve never been to before. Whether it is big outing or small, it gives you something to do and get out of the house.

To help you start your own summer bucket list, I’ll show you a few things off mine as an example! I live in the Seattle area so my list is more focused around the area. If you live in this area, steal some of the things off my list to add to yours! This is what I have on my list for this summer so far:

  • Tie dye shirts
  • Kerry park
  • Picnic at Gas Works park
  • Go to Wild Waves
  • Marymoor outdoor movies
  • Ride to the top of the Space Needle
  • Add to the Seattle Gum wall
  • Ride the Great Wheel
  • Jet ski in Crescent Bar
  • Get a part time summer job
  • Photoshoot at Vance Creek Bridge
  • Hike to the Mt.Baker Ice Caves
  • Go to Point Defiance Zoo
  • Seattle Sounders soccer game
  • Swim in Snow lake
  • Visit Treehouse point in Fall City
  • Go rollerblading
  • Attend a Mariners game
  • Hike up to Mailbox Peak
  • Eat Dick’s burgers under the Space Needle
  • Play a round of paintball
  • Road trip to Portland Oregon
  • Go mini golfing
  • Paint ceramics
  • Make a rainbow layered cake
  • Seattle Underground tour
  • Go to Silverwood
  • Day trip to Olympic Game Farm

On my list, I have a wide range of things. Some things I can do if I have a free afternoon and others if I have a few days to do nothing. My goal is to complete everything on my bucket list before I return to school. Yours should be to!

Write out your bucket list on a big piece of paper and cross things off as you do the! It is so satisfying to look back and have your list completely marked off. Also, think outside the box. Yes, I am a little basic with some of the things I want to do. But try to be creative and think of unfamiliar places that you have never been before. An adventure is all about trying new things and just going along for the ride.

Being home for the summer doesn’t have to be boring or cost a lot of money. With the tips and tricks that you have learned, you can create your own bucket list of things to do that interest you. The hardest part of a bucket list is choosing what to do first. Have a great summer!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
